Jakarta, IO – A number of alumni and academics from Trisakti University as well as representatives of the families of victims of the Reformasi hero Elang Mulya Lesmana, paid tribute and prayed in front of his grave at Tanah Kusir public cemetery, Jakarta to remember the historic struggle for reform, especially the tragedy involving four slain Trisakti students on May 12 1998.

The alumni called on the government to immediately and thoroughly investigate and arrest the intellectual actors involved in the fatal shootings. In addition, they expressed their aspirations for the four students to be formally declared national heroes.

Interestingly, on August 15, 2005 former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono honored the services of the four students by awarding them the Bintang Jasa Pratama honorary medals and designating them as Heroes of Reformasi, in accordance with Presidential Decree 057/TK/2005 dated August 9, 2005. However, alumni and families of the victims have continued to seek national hero recognition for their courage and sacrifices.
