Driver of tour bus that crashes in Subang named suspect

Jakarta, IO – Sadira, the driver of the Trans Putera Fajar bus carrying a group of students from Depok’s Lingga Kencana Vocational School has been named a suspect for causing the death of its 11 passengers in Ciater, Subang, West Java, Saturday (11/5).

West Java Traffic Police head Wibowo explained that Sadira was proven to be negligent. The driver was charged with Article 311(5) of Law 22/2009 concerning road traffic and transportation which carries a maximum 12 years prison term and a fine of Rp24 million.

Wibowo said that from the results of the investigation, there were a number of reasons why the bus had an accident. Some of these include oil leaks and damaged components.

Wibowo said that the driver might not be the sole suspect. “We will continue to carry out in-depth investigations in this fatal accident case, including conducting an examination of the bus owner, because it was discovered that the KIR [vehicle roadworthiness] test had not been extended, as well as other facts such as the change of the bus body from an ordinary bus to a Jetbus with high deck,” he said.
