Unpar dismisses its lecturer Syarif Maulana over allegation of sexual assault


Jakarta, IO – Bandung’s Parahyangan Catholic University sacked its Faculty of Philosophy lecturer Syarif Maulana after he was named a suspect in sexual assault case.

Unpar stated that Syarif Maulana is no longer permitted to carry out any activities within the university premises effective from May 13, 2024, per CNN Indonesia, Wed (15/5).

Unpar also ensured that its Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force had issued an appeal to any party who had experienced sexual violence at the hands of Syarif Maulana to immediately report it through Unpar’s Sexual Violence Complaint Service.

Before his dismissal, Syarif apologized to the public via his X account and admitted to a number of accusations levelled against him.

“I admit that I am guilty of sending messages via WhatsApp, DM and invitations to meet, to have a relationship, and in certain cases lead to sending obscene, impolite and indecent messages and even invitations to have sexual relations, which causes feelings of discomfort and even trauma to the victim,” he wrote on Friday (10/5).
