IO – Ministry of Youth and Sports Secretary Gatot S. Dewa Broto has launched a book titled “Turbulensi Sport di Indonesia (The Turbulence of Sports in Indonesia)”. The book launch event took place in the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium Press Conference Room, Jakarta on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

“I made this book in three months, and without telling my wife. I informed her when I was finished,” said Gatot. Before the event started a video was shown displaying Gatot in his role as the Ministry’s Secretary and when he surprised his wife, Nazlina Begum, with the book.

“At the time the Asian Games had two months left. Exactly two weeks after the Asian Games finished the book was completed. This is despite the fact that I was busy taking care of my wife who was still taking therapy in her wheelchair after falling and breaking her right leg in April 2018, and has just become free of her wheelchair on October 31, 2018,” Gatot said.

“Thank God to everyone this book is finally published. In this book, I tell many of the experiences and troubles I went through in facing sports matters in Indonesia such as overseeing Asian Games and Asian Para Games 2018, which, thank God, all ran smoothly. I also write about the problems of PPSI’s (Football Association of Indonesia) suspension which attracted a lot of attention from the public,” Gatot explained.

Other than being the Ministry’s Secretary at the time of Asian Games 2018, Gatot also served and Vice President II Assistant of Finance Indonesia for Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) and Indonesia Para Games Organizing Committee (INAPGOC).

“Although serving as the Ministry’s Secretary, I was dutiful to INASGOC Head Erick Thohir and INAPGOC Head Raja Sapta Oktohari and of course Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi,” said Gatot.

“Thank you to my family, Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, and all parties that helped make this book possible. This book is far from perfect as it was made amidst a very busy schedule: the preparation of Asian Games and Asian Para Games 2018. I am certainly open to the possibility of dozens of critiques and negative comments. This will all be a learning experience for the improvement of the event organizing performance and achievements in Indonesian sports.”

The book launch was attended by a number of sports figures from athletes to Indonesia sports observers such as Erick Thohir, U-19 national football manager Indra Sjafri, weightlifting 61kg class world champion Eko Yuli Irawan, Gelora Bung Karno Complex Central Management President Winarto, Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) Secretary-General Ahmad Budiarto and music observer Bens Leo.
