Jakarta, IO – Art Jakarta Gardens will be held again from February 7-12, 2023 at Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta. This art exhibition will showcase dozens of works of art mostly sculptures and installations. Featuring an open space concept, it offers a garden atmosphere that looks scenic and refreshing in the middle of bustling Jakarta. It is a perfect event for art fans or urbanites who want to unwind.

Upon entrance, we can see a row of a number of sculptures on display at the edge of the Plataran park created by young talented local and international artists. One of the highlights is the statue of a boy in the middle of a coconut tree. The appearance of the character of this statue is unique, just like in a fantasy.

The sculpture is named “Between Coconut Tree” and is the brainchild of Fandi Angga Saputra (26) who hails from Yogyakarta. He said that the character of a boy with a coconut shell is the background is inspired by his childhood life in Lampung.

“My family harvested palm sap to produce palm sugar. That used to be the routine activity that I observed every day,” Fandi told the Independent Observer, Tuesday (7/2).

It symbolizes Fandi’s enthusiasm and hope, as a leap from his former life amid all the limitations, wandering in search of hope until he becomes a young aspiring artist he is today.

“This figure is a form of my self-confidence from the lack of choices, because at that time there weren’t many choices I could make,” said the 2015 graduate of the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) in Yogyakarta. (at)
