Jakarta, IO – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has been vigorously organizing green areas with ornamental plants and urban farming systems along the Becakayu toll underpass (Bekasi Cawang Kampung Melayu) for the past few years. The urban farming implemented by the Provincial Government has managed to grow 10,200 plants at this location, which also serves to maintain PAM water quality.
The area has people cultivating various types, including cauliflower, mustard greens, chili, eggplant, and cassava. Cauliflower and mustard greens occupy most of the farming, due to their shortest harvest time of about 4 months. The income generated from vegetable and fruit sales returns to the urban farming operation, including seed purchasing. All the harvesting is organized at the RW 013 Cipinang Melayu Office.
Apart from urban farming, the land below the Becakayu Toll Flyover also benefits the children around the area. A playground named “Taman Interaksi Warga” was built from idle land under the toll flyover. Located at RW #10 Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta, children come around and enjoy themselves at the playground.

Slides, swings, and traditional toys are available in the playground for children to use and ride. The corners of the playground are also decorated with mural paintings to make the playground appear merrier.
The use of the land below the Becakayu Toll Flyover aims to provide more facilities to benefit the community and prevent idle land from being an illegal landfill or parking area.
