Jakarta, IO – Residents go on a pilgrimage ahead of the holy month of Ramadan at the Semper Public Cemetery, North Jakarta (8/3). According to the tradition, it is customary to visit loved ones’ graves before the month of Ramadan starts.
However, this year it is hampered by the impact of high rainfall and land subsidence due to excessive groundwater extraction which make it difficult to pump water out of the submerged area.

As a result, pilgrims have to wade through floodwater. Despite the obstacle, they are unfazed with the situation and make necessary efforts to offer solemn prayer at the inundated cemetery.
