Jakarta, IO – Mulia Knitting Factory has been focusing on the underwear industry in Indonesia since 1955, through its flagship product, Rider Underwear. They have innovated and maintained product quality for 68 years, under the leadership of Hanan Supangkat, the fourth generation leader, after Henry Supangkat, Max Mulyadi Supangkat, and the company’s founder, Phan Tjen Kong.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Rider Peduli has dug wells for clean water in the villages of Tugu, Buayan District, Kebumen Regency, and Central Java, providing fresh sources of water for two villages in Kebumen: Tugu Curug Gintung, with 80 families of 320 people, and Tugu 2, with 80 families totaling 285 inhabitants.

Each site has unique challenges and underground water levels. Residents in the Tugu Curug Gintung area are accustomed to drawing water for their daily needs from wells and rivers, many of which tend to suffer dry spells. The 118-meter-deep borehole has to overcome obstacles like rocky ground. Meanwhile, in the Tugu 2 location, the people access water from Pamsimas, which they have to share with other residents or neighborhoods, resulting in their being able to receive water twice a week.

To meet this acute water shortage, residents fetch water from another neighborhood well, about 3 kilometers away. After being earnestly excavated to a depth of 140 meters, the borehole still hit dry, rocky ground.

The Rider Peduli program previously constructed bridges in Brebes, held a free mass circumcision event in Karawang and conducted several other CSR activities. Due to the prolonged drought and its impact on many parts of Indonesia, water crises emerged, signaling a need for immediate results. Rider initiated the construction of several wells for clean water in different regions of Indonesia, starting with two areas in Kebumen which have successfully benefited residents living nearby.

The Rider Peduli Clean Water Well program is expected to help residents meet their needs for potable water for religious activities such as ablution and for their daily needs, as clean water is vital to prevent stunting and growth disorders in children, along with a lack of adequate nutrition and hygiene.
