Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officially issued Presidential Regulation 58/2023 in the Strengthening of Religious Moderation on September 25.
This regulation take into account the diversity of religions and beliefs which underlies the people’s belief in one Almighty God, per Kompas, Friday (29/9).
It is also deemed necessary because it is the basic foundation to improve the quality of civic life in Indonesia which requires planned, systematic, coordinated, collaborative and sustainable policy directions and arrangements in its implementation.
“The presidential regulation is intended as a guideline for the central government, regional administrations and religious communities in the context of strengthening religious moderation,” reads one of the articles.
It also contains a number of objectives to strengthen religious moderation, namely to support moderate religious views, attitudes and practices, as well as to strengthen civic and religious harmony.

Third, to harmonize relations between religion and culture and improve the quality of religious life, as well as the development of grassroots economy and religious resources.
The implementation is also carried out based on a number of indicators of religious moderation such as the essence of religious moderation, ecosystems and strategic groups, as well as policy directions and strategies. (un)
