Govt to provide Rp7 million subsidy for EV conversion, here’s how to qualify

Jakarta, IO – The government plans to provide incentives to encourage the massive adoption of battery-based electric vehicles (KBLBB). Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut B Pandjaitan confirmed that an incentive worth Rp7 million per unit will be given for the purchase of new electric motorcycles. What about converted motorbike?

Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Director General Dadan Kusdiana explained that to qualify for conversion, the motorcycle must be less than 10 years old, reported CNBC Indonesia, Wdnesday (1/2).

Furthermore, they must have a capacity between 100 to 125 cc. With this capacity, they can be fitted with 3 to 5kW electric motors. The converted motorcycles will also be equipped with 1.2 to 1.5kWh lithium battery. Dadan also explained that everyone is eligible for the conversion program because the goal is to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles to reduce emissions. These criteria will be applied uniformly at the mechanic workshops that provide the conversion service. (bp)
