Jakarta, IO – The government issued new regulation to provide subsidies for the purchase of electric motorbikes worth Rp7 million per unit per one citizen.

This is stipulated in Industry Ministerial Regulation (Permenperin) 21/2023 on Amendments to Permenperin 6/2023 on Guidelines for the Provision of Government Assistance for the Purchase of Two-Wheeled Battery-Based Electric Vehicles (KBLBB).

“This means that people who want to get this government assistance program are required to be Indonesian citizens who are at least 17 years old and have an electronic ID card (KTP). One person can only buy one unit of electric motorbike,” explained Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang, Tuesday (29/8).

Furthermore, Agus said the revision of the subsidy regulation aimed to accelerate the electric vehicle ecosystem development in Indonesia and spur public’s interest in the conversion program from ICE vehicles to electric vehicles.

“This goal will certainly have an impact on increase of investment, spurring industrial productivity and competitiveness, as well as labour absorption. The government will reimburse the discounted prices to manufacturers,” said Agus.

Vehicles eligible to receive subsidies are those that have a local content rate (TKDN) of minimum 40 percent. So far, there have been dozens of companies with 30 models of electric motorbikes that have partnered with the government. (bp)
