Former Inter and AS Roma player Radja Nainggolan joins Indonesian League

Jakarta, IO – Belgian professional footballer of Indonesian heritage Radja Nainggolan, who came to Indonesia at the invitation of Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chairman Erick Thohir for the U-17 World Cup, is interested to play in Liga 1, Indonesia’s first division league.

The opportunity was seized by Bhayangkara FC, which officially signed the former Belgian national team player who is also Inter Milan and AS Roma star player. Bhayangkara FC Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sumardji admitted that Radja will join the team nicknamed the “Guardians” for the remainder of the Liga 1 season in 2023/24.

Sumardji explained that the player agreed to sign a contract for the remainder of the season with an option to extend at the end of the season. Radja expressed his interest to play in Liga 1 because he saw the league has been held professionally.

Erick Thohir also welcomed the news positively. “I appreciate Radja Nainggolan’s decision. His presence in Liga 1 will definitely make this league even better. As I have repeatedly emphasized, we must make the Indonesian League the best league in Southeast Asia, which is managed professionally, there is no match fixing and more importantly all spectators and supporters will return home safely,” said Erick Thohir. The Indonesian League, which is determined to be the best league in the Southeast Asia region, with the presence of international footballer like Radja, will bring international renown and respect for Liga 1.
