“The return trip will start from Surabaya on Monday (9/5) using KM Ciremai and KM Dobonsolo on Wednesday (11/5),” explained Yahya.

The number of exodus travellers are expected to surged this year as people can’t wait to visit their hometowns after two years of Covid-19 mobility restrictions.

Ilham (43), one of the passengers interviewed, said he has not visited him origin city Makassar for two years and that he is thrilled to make a seaborne trip again after 20 years. Before the pandemic, he would fly instead, which took him around two hours.

This time he chose to spend days by ship to Makassar. “The intention is to have a more relaxed trip and also because I am brining my motorbike so I can go places more easily at my hometown,” he said. (at)
