Jakarta, IO – The Health Ministry’s (Kemenkes) Disease Prevention and Control director general Maxi Rein said that the high number of dengue fever cases that have occurred recently have yet to peak.

Maxi even predicted that dengue fever cases would still increase, even continuing into the transitional period from the rainy to dry season, per Kemkes.go.id, Thu (4/4).

Based on Kemenkes data, dengue fever cases in Indonesia reportedly have reached 53,131 by the end of March, the majority in Bandung and Kendari. “Meanwhile, 404 people have succumbed to the mosquito-borne infection,” he said.

Nevertheless, Maxi said hospital occupancy rate is still normal. “There are still unoccupied beds, and ICU rooms are still generally available.”

With the number of cases continuing to increase, Maxi asked the public to be more vigilant and not panic. According to him, the most important thing is to maintain health and sanitation, especially in one’s most immediate environment. (un)
