Jakarta, IO – Transportation is revitalizing the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SHIA) in a bid to expand its capacity.

Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi projects SHIA will be able to accommodate hundreds of millions of passengers per year, up from currently only tens of millions.

“Terminal revitalization is being carried out to increase passenger capacity from 65 million per year to 110 million per year,” said Budi, per dephub.go.id, Tuesday (25/7).

Budi explained that a number of projects being carried out include the land side and the air side.  The project will involve a number of parties such as airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) and state-owned construction company PT Adhi Karya (Persero).

He further explained that for the land side, the revitalization is being carried out at Terminals 1B and 1C for domestic flights, and Terminal 2F for international flights. Meanwhile, on the air side, work on runways and installation of systems is being carried out to better facilitate take-offs and landings.
