Jakarta, IO – Gerindra (Great Indonesia Movement) Party General Chairman Prabowo Subianto placed first on the 2024 presidential candidate electability survey released by the Indonesia Polling Stations (IPS), surpassing Ganjar Pranowo and Anies Baswedan.

IPS Senior Researcher Alfin Sugianto shared this result during a virtual survey release, titled “The development of political parties’ electability ahead of the 2024 election” Monday (3/28/2022). “If the presidential election were to be held today, 27.4% of respondents said they would vote for Chairman Prabowo, while 18.9% would choose Ganjar Pranowo and 15.9% Anies Baswedan,” explained Alfin.

Alfin said Chairman Prabowo’s electability has consistently risen over the last 1.5 years. This shows that he has a higher possibility of victory in the 2024 presidential election. “Other eventualities may occur, but Chairman Prabowo’s electability, steadily sitting at the top of the survey for the past 1.5 years, indicates his strong potential to lead Indonesia, succeeding President Jokowi in 2024,” he elaborated.

Alfin mentioned the other figures arrayed in the survey included Sandiaga Uno with 7.2%, Ridwan Kamil 6.2%, Basuki T. Purnama (Ahok) 4.1%, Dedi Mulyadi 3.0%, Agus H. Yudhoyono with 2.8%, Erick Thohir 2.5%, Moeldoko 1.9%, Mahfud MD 1.2%, Gatot Nurmantyo 1.1%, La Nyala Mattalitti 0.9%, Airlangga Hartarto 0.9%, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) 0.9 % and Puan Maharani 0.6%. There were 4.5% undecided voters.

An amusing discovery from the IPS survey was the inclusion of local figure Dedi Mulyadi, the former Purwakarta Regent. He was barely given a chance by other politicians and Golkar (Functional Groups Party), his own. Nevertheless, he managed to pierce into the top seven most electable presidential candidates. “With a 3% electability rate, Dedi outshone the electability of Golkar Party General Chairman Airlangga Hartarto, who sat at the bottom of the survey,” explained Alfin.

In addition to the electability survey of potential 2024 presidential candidates, IPS also conducted an electability survey of political parties. Gerindra Party’s electability showed a 4% increment.
