IO, Solo – Three students of Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, Central Java, have made another achievement at the national level: Ryan Ferza Ramadhan, Marcellinus Abellard Arioseto and Muhammad Iqbal Sulistyo from the Industrial Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering managed to bring home the runner-up title in an Industrial Engineering competition, the 2021 CONSTRAIN, which was held March 21.

This activity, which was organized by Hasanuddin University, Makassar, South Sulawesi, brought together students from various universities to present their business ideas. Marcellinus revealed that they brought up a business idea in the form of a cloth company called Kaia Woods.

“Kaia Woods sells processed products from wood waste that are processed into wall decorations. There will also be applications for marketing to make it easier for consumers. We carry this business idea because the statistics say wood waste is always increasing and there are still few people who understand that this wood waste can have added value,” he said, as quoted by Uns.ac.id, Thursday (25/3/2021).

When it was announced that they had won second place, Marcell and his team said they were very happy. They did not expect to qualify as finalists and bring the title in this competition.

“I felt a mixture of joy, sadness, and other emotion because all the efforts we had done paid off that day. Besides, we are also happy because we can beat participants from well-known universities such as Gadjah Mada University, Padjajaran University, Sebelas November Institute of Technology, Airlangga University, Bina Nusantara University, Brawijaya University, and the University of Indonesia,” said the 4th-semester student.

This online competition was attended by 84 teams from various universities in Indonesia. In the initial stage, a selection was carried out which succeeded in passing 64 teams. Then in the next stage, a selection of proposals would take only the top 10 finalists to present their business ideas.

Before ending the interview, Marcell says he hopes to realize their business idea. “Hopefully this business idea can be realized in the future and inspire all of us to achieve more to make the alma mater proud,” he said. (est)
