13 dead and 82 evacuated after KKB attack in Yahukimo

Jakarta, IO – Cartenz Peace Task Force head Commissioner Faizal Ramadhani said attacks by armed criminal groups (KKB) in Yahukimo regency, Papua Highlands province has left 13 people dead. As many as 82 others needed to be evacuated by the security forces, per Detikcom, Friday (28/10).

Faizal said that all the surviving victims were found at different points of time. First, 16 people were rescued by TNI-Polri personnel on October 17. “The survivors were found over several days. On October 17, the joint forces managed to find 16 people,” he said.

The following days saw, on October 18 and 19, security personnel managed to rescue 23 and 36 people, respectively. Seven others were rescued on October 24 and evacuated to Dekai district.

Most recently, officers again found 6 bodies as a result of the brutal and sadistic attack. The six bodies were found in a location quite far from the crime scene on October 27, revealed Yahukimo Police Chief AKBP Heru Hidayanto. The attack was allegedly carried out by a group led by Egianus Kogoya.

“We will pursue the culprits and we will bring the full force of the law on them,” said Commissioner Faizal. (rr)
