Jakarta, IO – Through its subsidiary, Nusameta, WIR Group (PT WIR ASIA Tbk), a leading immersive technology and web3 company focusing on augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain in Southeast Asia, has partnered with Sampoerna University to develop a blockchain-based diploma authentication system renowned for its decentralized security and reliability; it is designed to securely store and share higher education information.

As one of Indonesia’s leading higher education institutions, Sampoerna University pursues excellence in its curriculum standards, faculty, facilities and operations, with a focus on technology and blockchain. To enhance the competitiveness of Sampoerna University graduates, the initiative to develop technology and blockchain is essential to ensure that the education sector remains adaptable to technological advancements and that the public understands the importance of actively participating in Indonesia’s digital transformation.

Dr. Marshall Schott, Ph.D., President of Sampoerna University, outlines the university’s approach to incorporating blockchain technology for education and diploma authentication as part of its innovation strategy and as a real-world example of educational institutions adapting to global demands. “We are happy to work with WIR Group and Nusameta to pioneer the use of blockchain technology to address challenges such as credential fraud and diploma counterfeiting, to streamline the verification process, and allow students more control over their academic records. We intend to assist diploma recipients in adapting to the rapid changes of the digital era,” he stated.

Dr. Schott affirms Sampoerna University’s commitment to providing international-quality education. “With an American-style education system, we believe hands-on learning approaches will help students compete in the future. As a result, Sampoerna University is committed to providing practical experience, such as blockchain workshops, that add to theoretical knowledge, encompassing a combination of hard and soft skills such as effective communication, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence. These skills are critical in complex fields like blockchain, for explaining concepts and presenting information to non-technical audiences,” adds Dr. Schott.

Gupta Sitorus, WIR Group’s Group Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, said that the company is grateful for Sampoerna University’s trust. “We believe that the use of blockchain technology has ushered in a new era of innovation and efficiency across various sectors. Blockchain’s decentralized structure provides transparency and better security, making it a valuable asset in the digital world. The use of blockchain demonstrates its transformational power and enormous benefits. We can use blockchain to construct a safer future by collectively addressing difficulties transparently and efficiently,” he said.
