Jakarta, IO – Tri Sugiarti is making woven pencil baskets from waste paper at the Tri Alam Lestari waste bank in Pesanggrahan, Jakarta. Crafts that utilize waste are processed into various kinds of products with economic value such as tissue boxes, flower vases, bed lamps, and even glass baskets which are sold in online stores, through resellers or exhibitions, starting from Rp5,000 to Rp1 million with  turnover of Rp15 million per month.

The waste recycling business, which she started nine years ago, has enabled her to empower the local community to start sorting waste from their homes and depositing it in the waste bank in exchange for money in the form of savings that can be withdrawn at any time. However, over time, Tri is now running the Waste Bank program herself by collaborating with the Environment and Waste Management Department (DLH) to supply organic waste.

Through the waste bank program, Tri Sugiarti wishes to educate the public that trash can be turned into cash through the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) concept.
