Between June 1948 and September 1949, the Royal Air Force assisted in the air operation known as the Berlin Airlift, an effort to send logistical support to Berlin.

When the aviation world entered the era of jet aircraft technology, the RAF was equipped with Avro Vulcan aircraft. History recorded that Avro Vulcan aircraft played an important role in defending and recapturing the Falkland Islands after being invaded by Argentina.

The Royal Air Force is famous, among others, for its aerobatic team called The Red Arrows. The Red Arrows Aerobatic Team was formed in 1965 and has since become a proud icon of the Royal Air Force.

Flying the BAE Hawk, the Red Arrows put on a dazzling performance at more than 4,800 airshows in 57 countries worldwide.

The Royal Air Force’s currently active fleet includes Airbus A400M, Chinook, F-35 Lightning, C-17 Globemaster, Hawk T1, Hercules C-130J, Jupiter HT1, Poseidon MRA 1, Texan T1, Typhoon and Voyager.

That concludes the story of the oldest Air Force in the world, the Royal Air Force or RAF, which was formed on April 1, 1918.

It is interesting to note that the Indonesian Air Force was also established in the same month, April 9, but 28 years later than the birth of the RAF in 1946. (Air Chief Marshal Chappy Hakim)
