Jakarta, IO – The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will immediately announce the status of the murder case of prominent human rights activist Munir Said Thalib. Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Aman said the commission had summoned at least four experts to deeply investigate the case.
Choirul estimated the clarity on whether it is an ordinary murder case or a human rights violation could be ascertained in two months. “Whether this can be investigated using Law 26/2000 on Human Rights Court will be determined hopefully in two months’ time,” said Choirul, as per CNN Indonesia, Thursday (19/5).
In September 2022, Munir’s murder case will have been 18 years old. The case nears expiration because according to Article 78(1.3) of the Penal Code, criminal prosecutions are abolished after 18 years for crimes punishable by death or life imprisonment, such as premeditated murder.
