Jakarta, IO – The phenomenon of the last super full moon in August 2023, which is called the Super Blue Moon, will occur on Wednesday (30/8). Previously, the phenomenon of the super full moon in 2023 began on August 1. The Super Blue Moon will be a rare astronomical event that is not to be missed.

When the last super moon occurred, the moon was very close to earth or experienced perigee at its closest distance (357,181 km) in earth’s orbit, per Kompas, Tuesday (29/8).

So, what’s so interesting about the Super Blue Moon phenomenon? August 2023 is a rare moment, because two full moons occur in a month. The super moon is unique and interesting because it will be the brightest moon in 2023, expected to be 30 percent brighter than other full moon phenomena. However, the actual increase in brightness was very small, less than three-tenths of the magnitude.

According to the Observer’s Handbook of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, the Super Blue Moon phenomenon will be the largest full moon in 2023, which is 14 percent larger than the apogee full moon, when the moon is at its furthest point from Earth.

The Blue Full Moon can appear very large because of the moon illusion, which is when perigee is near the horizon. As a result, the Super Blue Moon phenomenon will be a truly amazing sight to behold. (rr)
