Jakarta, IO – The Mount Rinjani National Park Agency (BTNGR) is closing mountain climbing routes from December 31 to March 31, 2024.
BTNGR forest ecosystem controller Budi Soesmardi said there were a number of reasons behind this decision, per tribunnews, Thu (21/12).
First, due to the New Year which is routine as part of the maintenance measure. The area improvements this time around were also related to forest and land fires that occurred in recent months.
In addition, the closure was part of the preventive measures in anticipation of natural disasters issued by the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) during the rainy season.

“Because there were concerns about rain and landslides and tornadoes,” said Budi.
The other reason is related to the monthly evaluation regarding the active status of Mount Rinjani which is currently designated at Alert Level 2 of the four-tiered system. “The closure also aims to ensure the safety of the climbers themselves,” he explained. (un)
