“He has direct access to the King of Malaysia, the prime minister of Malaysia, and also the wider public in Malaysia. So, Ambassador Tajuddin has the potential to successfully carry out his duties,” Rezasyah told CNN Indonesia.

Similar view was expressed by the international relations expert Suzie Sudarman from the University of Indonesia. She said that despite his controversy, Tajuddin will be a unique ambassador.

Suzie believes that the appointment of Tajuddin as ambassador may be Malaysia’s way of criticizing Indonesia’s free-active foreign policy, which in practice continues to trade with China.

“Malaysia is following in the footsteps of AUKUS to always criticize Indonesia, which is free and active but continues to trade with China. Malaysia is an ally of Britain, a component of AUKUS,” he said. (rr)
