Jakarta, IO – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa was pleased to be able to inaugurate Sampoerna Academy Grand Pakuwon Surabaya on Thursday, August 24, as witnessed by Surabaya Mayor Ery Cahyadi and other guests.

As Sampoerna Academy’s second campus in Surabaya, after Pakuwon Indah, the Grand Pakuwon campus offers educational services from early learning to high school levels. It provides more comprehensive access to international quality education and is the best option for families in Surabaya and surrounding areas.

“Today, we gain the energy for strengthening human resources quality, not only dedicated to Surabaya and East Java but also to Indonesia and the world. What we’re preparing is world-class education,” said Khofifah in her speech.

“Therefore, we cherish the fervent hope that more quality international schools will be built in East Java, especially in Surabaya, because the provincial government has a strategic need to provide quality human resources,” added Khofifah.

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) pedagogy adopted by Sampoerna Academy will boost both right and left brain development in a sustainable manner, supported by strong character. “It’s something we need, because no one can become a technocrat without having a humanist touch. This is the strength of Sampoerna Academy,” praised Khofifah.

Sampoerna Academy expedites the strengthening of human resources not only for Surabaya and East Java, but also for Indonesia.

Based on 2018 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) data issued by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), Indonesia was far below the world’s average score, ranking 74th out of 80 countries. Thus, improving the quality and achievement of education has become an urgent task to realize an Indonesian generation that possesses global competitiveness.

The opening of Sampoerna Academy’s second campus in Surabaya also aligns with the vision and mission of the Smart East Java program initiated by the East Java Provincial Government. Through this program, the provincial government successfully boosts the region’s education quality by improving infrastructure, empowering educators and encouraging innovation. Surabaya City government also provides support.
