Jakarta, IO – The Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry (Kemendikbudristek) clarified that it did not eliminate the Scout Movement, but only altering its status as an extracurricular activity.

Kemendikbudristek’s educational standards, curriculum and assessment bureau head Anindito Aditomo said the minister, Nadiem Makarim, only changed the part of Scouting camping program and designates its participation voluntary, per CNN Indonesia, Tue (2/4).

“However, if the education unit is going to hold camping activities, it is still permissible,” said Anindito.

“Law 12/2010 states that the Scout Movement is independent, voluntary and non-political,” he explained. “In line with this, ministerial regulation 12/2024 stipulates that student participation in extracurricular activities, including Scouting, is voluntary.”

Previously, Scouting was a mandatory extracurricular activity as per Curriculum 2013. It has three models: Block, Actualization and Regular.

In the block model, camping activities must be carried out once a year and given a general assessment. The actualization model emphasizes character education. Meanwhile, the regular model is a voluntary activity based on student’s interests.

“Basically, every school is still obliged to offer Scouting as an extracurricular program. This provision has not changed from the previous curriculum,” said Anindito. (un)
