Jakarta, IO – In a plenary cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Thursday (2/3), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo spotlighted the hedonistic lifestyle of govenrment officials. He said it was only natural that the people are disappointed with the government because of this. He also emphasized that all state officials or civil apparatus (ASN) are servants of the people.
“In relation to state civil apparatus and bureaucratic reform, the essence of bureaucratic reform is that the people are served properly, effectively and with accountability,” Jokowi said, reported Detik, Thursday (2/3).
Jokowi said he has noted the public’s disillusionment with the government because of the incident involving the Taxation Directorate General. He asked all sectors, not just Taxation and Customs, to be careful with their reputation.

He especially denounced officials who like to show off their lavish lifestyle and luxury goods.
“In my opinion, the people has the right to be if the state apparatus behaves arrogantly and shows off their power, their wealth, and behave in a hedonistic way,” he said. (rr)
