Jokowi reveals why he chose Navy chief as sole candidate for TNI commander

Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo has proposed Chief of the Naval Staff (KSAL) Adm. Yudo Margono as the candidate to succeed the current TNI commander Gen. Andika Perkasa who will enter his retirement age on December 21.

The decision was stipulated in a Presidential Letter (Surpres) which was submitted and received by the Speaker of the House Puan Maharani on Monday (28/11).

According to president.go.id, President Jokowi also revealed that the rotation of service branches as the reason for appointing the navy chief to assume the position. Gen. Andika Perkasa is from the army, while his predecessor Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto is from the air force.

The next stage would be fit and proper test to be carried out by the House Committee I. If Yudo passes he will become the third navy chief to be commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, after Admiral Widodo Adi Sutjipto (1999-2002) and Admiral Agus Suhartono (2010-2013). (un)
