Jakarta Transport Agency: Congestion getting worse

Jakarta, IO – Traffic jams in Jakarta are getting worse. Head of Transport Agency Syafrin Liputo said according to TomTom International, Jakarta is in the 29th most congested city in the world, up from 46th two years ago. It means that the average congestion rate in Jakarta has reached 53 percent, reported Inews, Thursday (6/4).

Jakarta Metropolitan Traffic Police Directorate claimed that the congestion happens due to people’s increased mobility ahead of Lebaran and the return to normalcy post-Covid.

The city’s Traffic Police Chief Latif Usman revealed congestion happens not only on major highways but even toll roads are affected. He said he has deployed more personnel to the ground to address the issue and make necessary preparations to anticipate higher volume of traffic ahead of the annual exodus trips. (un)
