Jakarta, IO – Indonesia supports for Israel to be tried at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its attacks against the Palestinians, especially its air strikes in Gaza.

The statement was made by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi after attending the General Assembly Session at the United Nations which discussed the issue of Palestine in New York, Tuesday (28/11), per CNN Indonesia, Wed (29/11).

“Indonesia supports efforts to hold Israel accountable, including at the International Court of Justice,” said Retno.

Retno even stated that Israel’s attacks on facilities in Gaza were not “normal”. She also emphasized that the root of the conflict, namely Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, must be solved.

Apart from Indonesia, Jordan has also expressed its stance for Israel to be held accountable for the genocide it committed in Palestine. Jordan Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the Jewish state must take responsibility for the humanitarian tragedy it caused in Gaza.

The conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas broke out on October 7.  Israeli troops responded by attacking civilians and public facilities such as schools and hospitals. The Israeli military offensive has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians. (un)
