Glass bridge in Banyumas shatters, killing 1 tourist

Jakarta, IO – The Geong Limpakuwus glass bridge in Banyumas, Central Java, shattered on Wednesday (25/10). This incident left a tourist identified as FA, 49, dead and another identified as A, 41, injured.

The bridge in the pine forest area has a thickness of 1 centimeter and a height of 15 meters.  Banyumas Police Chief Eddy Suranta Sitepu said the accident occurred in the morning, per BeritaSatu, Thursday (26/10).

“From the information we have, there were group of tourists from Cilacap, a total of 11 people, at around 10am WIB,” said Eddy.

“Then two people fell when the glass shattered. The others were able to hold on,” he said.

Eddy explained that FA was a woman from Banjarnegara regency, while A, also a woman, was a resident of Sleman regency. He said police will carry out investigations on the cause of the incident.

“We will collaborate with experts to find out whether or not the bridge is safe for use. We will also investigate the management,” said Eddy.

He went on to say that the tourist destination would be temporarily closed until the investigation is concluded and the results published. (un)
