Jakarta, IO – The 2030 World Cup will be more special than the previous ones as it will be held in six countries — Argentina, Paraguay, Urugay, Spain, Portugal and Morocco — to celebrate FIFA’s 100th anniversary.

This announcement also marked the first time the World Cup will be held on three continents, namely Europe, America and Africa, aimed at signifying the globally unifying force of football, per FIFA.com, Thursday (5/10).

“In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting. The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, unanimously agreed to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup, whose first edition was played in Uruguay in 1930, in the most appropriate way,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The three opening matches of the four-year international sporting event will be held in South America, namely Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. Meanwhile, other matches will be held in the three permanent host countries, namely Morocco, Portugal and Spain.

“The first of these three matches will of course be played at the stadium where it all began, in Montevideo’s mythical Estádio Centenário, precisely to celebrate the centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup.” (bp)
