Jakarta, IO – Crowds watch the Palang Pintu art performance during Lebaran Betawi celebration at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, Sunday (21/5).
The lively atmosphere is fueled by series of events such as ondel-ondel dancing, old photo exhibitions, and pencak silat attractions. The visitors are not just Betawi ethnic group, but also other residents who spent time exercising and sightseeing in Monas.
Despite the rain, the residents seemed enthusiastic, especially when the ondel-ondel were performing, prompting people to take picture. This year, the celebration is themed “Betawi solidarity, successful Jakarta, Indonesia forward”.

Lebaran Betawi is an event that aims to encourage people to stay in touch with friends and relatives. However, it is not exclusively for Betawi ethnic group as it has become a communal event enjoyed by Jakarta residents from diverse backgrounds. (Septo Kun Wijaya)
