Christine Hakim named in Forbes’ 50 Over 50

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian actress Christine Hakim, 67, made it into the rank of 50 Over 50 Asia, a list of 50 highly-achieving and inspirational Asian women over the age of 50 according to Forbes.

The women were chosen because they are influential in the fields of entertainment, fashion, pharmaceuticals and finance. Christine Hakim was recognized for her achievements in the film industry and her name became increasingly famous worldwide when she starred in several famous films.

“Known as the Grand Dame of Indonesian cinema, Hakim celebrated 50 years in film in 2023, adorned with nine Citra Awards and a Festival Film Indonesia (FFI) Lifetime Award in 2016. Notable roles include Eat Pray Love (2010), Perempuan Tanah Jahannam (2019), and her latest appearance in episode 2 of the HBO series The Last of Us (2023). She has contributed to the Cannes Film Festival as a jury member and assumed the role of FFI Ambassador in 2023. Beyond the silver screen, Hakim served as Indonesia’s goodwill ambassador for UNESCO from 2008 to 2020,” Forbes wrote.

Other illustrious Indonesian women in the list are XL Axiata president director/CEO Dian Siswarini (aged 55) and BINHouse founder and designer Josephine Komara (aged 68).

Meanwhile, from the world of entertainment, several other actresses on the list are Chinese actress Lisa Lu (aged 96). She has starred in more than 300 films and was awarded three Golden Horse Awards.

Another actress is Dolly de Leon (54) from the Philippines, who is globally known for her role as Abigail in Triangle of Sadness which makes her the first Filipino actress to ever be nominated for a Golden Globe. (bp)
