After 22 Years, Bangka Belitung Islands Now Has a Cinema

Jakarta, IO – The people of the Bangka Belitung Islands can now experience the sensation of watching movie in big screen after 22 years. Isyak Meirobie, the owner of NSC X Meirobie Cinema in Belitung said people from all corners of the province have flocked to the cinema to watch domestically-produced and foreign movies, per Kompas, Mon (8/1).

“Thank God, there are lots of patrons. This fulfil people’s longing after there has been no cinema in Belitung for 22 years,” said Isyak.

Isyak said that the majority of people apparently love locally-produced films based on the ticket sales number which reached 70 percent. “This shows that the country’s creative industry, especially in film, has begun to develop,” he said.

With the operation of the cinema, Isyak, who once served as deputy regent of Belitung, hopes that people will have more choices for entertainment and spending time with family.

The cinema has two studios with a capacity of 224 cinemagoers each. The tickets cost Rp25,000 for Monday-Wednesday, Rp30,000 for Thursday-Friday and Rp35,000 for weekends. (un)
