Jakarta, IO – A 20-year-old girl named Hadis Najafi was dead after being hit by six bullets during a protest to oppose hijab (head scarf) rule in Iran. Her death was announced Sunday (25/9).

Widespread protests broke out following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after she was detained by the moral police for wearing a head scarf inappropriately, violating the country’s strict dress code.

Journalist and women’s rights advocate Masih Alinejad said Hadith Najafi was shot for not wearing a head scarf. “Her sister told me that her death devastated her. She said she will not stay silent. They mowed her down with six bullets,” Kompas reported on Tuesday (27/9).

Meanwhile, Iran Wire reported that Hadis Najafi suffered injuries to her stomach, neck, heart and hands on Wednesday (21/9). After being shot by security forces she was taken to Ghaem Hospital, but her life could not be saved.
