Jakarta, IO – Anar Tiur Samosir, 71, from Bekasi, West Java, managed to climb Mount Rinjani in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara and reached its peak. Her achievement was even recognized by the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI). She was named as the ‘Oldest woman to ever climb Mount Rinjani to the top’, per CNNIndonesia, Friday (14/7).

With a height of 3,726 meters above sea level, Mount Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia after Sumatra’s Mount Kerinci. She conquered the mountain on June 20.

“I arrived at the top around 2pm WITA after starting the journey from the last base camp in Pelawangan at 3:30am WITA on June 2,” she said.

She did it in four days and three nights, from June 18 to June 21. The terrain she went through was quite extreme.

Anar explained that she had to pass through savannas, forests, as well as the steep slopes. According to her, the process was the most difficult because it was complicated by scorching sun and strong winds.

“Only my group was able to reach the top. Other climbers had already descended,” she said. (un)
