Jakarta, IO – Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) has begun implementing new rules on health protocols after the government recently lifted the mask mandate on public transportation as Indonesia transition toward the Covid-19 endemic phase.

Kemenhub has issued several circular letters stipulating the mask-wearing policy for domestic and foreign travellers, per CNNIndonesia, Tuesday (13/6).

Circular 1/2023 on health protocols during the Covid-19 endemic transition period was issued on June 9.

Kemenhub spokesperson Adita Irawati elaborated that the circular letters consist of Circular 14 on land transportation, Circular 15 on sea transportation, Circular 16 on air transportation and Circular 17 on rail transportation. All circulars come into effect on June 9.

Adita explained that the guideline has been communicated to port authorities and managers of transportation facilities and infrastructure.

In principle, the rule is the same as policy issued by the Covid-19 Handling Task Force. These include appeal to passengers to take the fourth dose (second booster), especially for those who have a high risk of transmitting Covid-19 to others.

“Passengers are allowed not to use masks if they are in good health and are not at risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19,” said Adita.

“But passengers are advised to continue using masks if they are feeling unwell or at risk of transmitting Covid-19. Passengers are also advised to keep hand sanitizer with them and wash their hands as often as possible in running water.” (un)
