Jakarta, IO – A number of visitors observe works at the photo exhibition “Pulo Geulis Setapak Keberagaman” at the HB Jassin Building, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Jakarta, Thursday (16/11).

Organized by photographer Lazyra Amadea, it aims to celebrate the International Tolerance Day which falls on November 16. A total of 50 photos are displayed in this exhibition, showcasing the daily lives of residents as well as the diversity and tolerance that exist in Pulo Geulis, Bogor City.

Lazyra said that the city of Bogor was labeled as an intolerant city in 2019, but while conducting research to collect photo materials, she never found any SARA (tribal, religious, racial and communal) incidents in Pulo Geulis. Everyone seems to coexist harmoniously. In fact, the Chinese community is very active there and shares a lot with the local community.

The photographer from Bogor explained that in the past there were many Chinese people living on Pulo Geulis. But now the situation has reversed, only around 30 percent of the Chinese population remains and the rest are indigenous residents. However, Lazyra said that Chinese arts and traditions are still widely visible in this place.
