Jakarta, IO – Probolinggo City, East Java, has a unique historic religious tour, namely the Red Church of which there are only two in the world.
Called the Protestant Church of the Immanuel Congregation (GPIB), it is located at 32 Suroyo Street, Tisnonegaran, Kaniagaran District.
“The other one is in the Netherlands,” said Probolinggo Mayor Hadi Zainal Abidin. However, the Red Church in The Hague, Netherlands, has now been converted into a bar.
This house of worship was built by a priest named Pati Rajawane during the Dutch colonial administration led by Regent Meijer (the first Regent of Probolinggo) in 1862.
Constructed using a steel with red façade that signifies the blood of Jesus Christ that was spilled to save the sins of mankind.
Not only that, the interior of the building still looks classic. This can be seen from the pulpit of the church which is shaped like a cup and a baptismal cup made of iron. It also houses an ancient Bible.
Currently the Red Church has become a cultural heritage and a popular religious tourism destination in Probolinggo City. (From various sources/at)
