Jakarta, IO – The Garuda Baru Team (New Garuda) is making another attempt at success, following its victory in the 2014 Street Child World Cup in Brazil, and later in 2018 in Russia. Indonesia has sent the Garuda Baru Team to compete in the 2022 International Street Child World Cup (SCWC) in Doha, Qatar, from October 8 to 15, 2022. The Garuda Baru team consists of 9 young female soccer players, trained and selected from August to September 2021. The chosen young players come from various cities in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek). Participants joining the selection stage were required to at least attend ball training for two years.

The Garuda Baru team underwent intensive training from October 2021 to August 2022 and was quarantined at Rumah Perubahan Rhenald Khasali’s in September 2022 for almost a month. Selected players mostly had lived in the streets, worked, or were prone to live in the streets. This year, Indonesia only sent the girl’s team to the 2022 SCWC. The girl’s team would fight to win the cup and voice the ostracized children in Indonesia to get equal rights and protection from violence.

The Indonesian CSR Forum fully supported this program for all departing contingents. Mahir Bayasut, the Garuda Muda Team initiator and the General Chairperson of the National Board of the Indonesian CSR Forum, said that the Indonesian CSR Forum is proving its support and concern for the rights and protection of Indonesian children.
