Jakarta, IO – Melly Goeslaw and the late Nike Ardilla – two Indonesian music legends – started their singing careers at a young age and successfully achieved a multitude of achievements through their hit songs. Even though Nike Ardilla is no longer with us, Melly Goeslaw’s wish to collaborate with Nike was made possible in their latest single release, “Bertemu Kembali” (meaning to meet again), launched on Dec 6, 2023.
This collab song features state-ofthe-art AI technology and tells about separation, which is only temporary, never eternal. “The song ‘Bertemu Kembali’ is a story about my friendship with Nike, like if we got married, we would like it to be a mass wedding. But after I met my other half, Nike left, and our dream never came true,” Melly regretted.
The release of “Bertemu Kembali” also commemorates Nike Ardilla’s birthday on Dec 27. The song is Melly’s most precious gift to Nike, her best friend, who will remain in her heart and those of Indonesian admirers.
Featuring AI Deep Fake Technology
The legendary Nike Ardilla seems to be brought back to life by the AI (Artificial intelligence) technology, Deep Fake, in “Bertemu Kembali”. Deep Fake is a technological breakthrough in the music industry that makes audiovisuals look unbelievably real. Melly Goeslaw came up with the idea to realize her big dream of collaborating with Nike and expressed it to Indrawati “Ibu Acin” Widjaja from Musica Studios, Nike’s record label. The company welcomed Melly’s idea and gave its full support. “I was deeply moved and sentimental as I was overjoyed. While I’m still around, I’d like to manifest this idea. Thank God, the technology has become more advanced that we can bring back and collaborate with someone who is no longer in this world, with real and amazing results,” said Melly.
Melly recalled the creation process of “Bertemu Kembali” that took three whole months, from songwriting and recording to filming the music video. Again, Melly was overcome with emotion when filming the video. “When Nike’s stand-in was behind me, with waves in the setting, I had tingles. Not because of the supernatural, but I was wondering if this would only happen in reality, me and Nike together, not with a standin,” Melly reminisced.
In the song lyrics, Melly was particularly drawn to the part that says, “But now that I have him, I don’t have you.” Although the lyrics may seem simple, they have a profound meaning for Melly and Nike’s friendship and Melly’s romance with her husband, Anto Hoed.

A Mix of Two Songs
The single “Bertemu Kembali” is a mix of two songs: Nike’s “Duka Pasti Berlalu” created by Dadang S. Manaf and a new song composed by Melly. The song-combining breakthrough can be used for the work of other legendary Indonesian musicians who have passed away.
Melly also shared her wishes for the new single. “Hopefully, this song can help cure the longing of Nike’s fans for their idol, both the new and old fans. Although the song uses Nike’s old recording from her past song, it has become a new work after new composition and arrangement is added. I hope this song can arouse fresh feelings in the fans. I hope the song can inspire Indonesian music, by using this technology to create outstanding works,” said Melly. (des/ast)
