PPAL Wanachala Atma Jaya Committee Head of the event, Phillip Dave, said the Mangrove4Earth event was a tangible management movement to increase awareness of environmental sustainability. “We hope that there will be an increase in environmental awareness and knowledge about the benefits of mangrove conservation after this event, especially for young members and PPAL Wanachala Atma Jaya administrators who joined us today,” Dave explained.

Co-Founder of the Jakarta Mangrove Community Bayu Pamungkas conveyed the benefits of maintaining the mangrove ecosystem. “The mangrove forest ecosystem can protect the coast and riverbanks from erosion and abrasion, retain sediment in forming new land, and act as one of the efforts to withstand tsunami waves in coastal areas,” he said. “Mangrove forests store and absorb 4 to 5 times more carbon than mainland tropical forests, which is very ecologically and economically beneficial,” he concluded.

This environment-focused community opens up opportunities for the general public to participate in nature conservation by channeling some through the Kitabisa.com platform. The Jakarta Mangrove Community will allocate the funds collected for further mangrove planting and other environmental activities.
