Jakarta, IO – Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD countersued the Association of Law and Injustice Mafia Victims (Perkomhan).
Mahfud was previously sued by Perkomhan to pay Rp1,025 million for his comments about the decision of the Jakarta District Court to postpone of the verification process of the 2024 elections, per Kompas, Friday (16/6).
“Because it bothered me, I will countersue Perkomhan in a counterclaim amounting to Rp5 billion with a bail provision provision decision,” said Mahfud in a statement.
“They asserted I had committed an unlawful act because I commented on the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court which ruled in favour of the PRIMA Party to postpone the election.”
“How come commenting on a court decision is considered illegal? What rights does Perkomhan have on the matter?” he asked.
Mahfud was surprised because many parties also commented on the ruling. “Why weren’t they sued as well if it’s considered a violation of civil rights?” Mahfud said.

According to him, Perkomhan lawsuit was baseless because the District Court’s decision clearly stated that they would not appeal against the decision of the High Court.
“The District Court’s decision was entirely annulled by the High Court, which means that the public’s comments are legally correct,” he said. (un)
