Jakarta, IO – The General Elections Commission (KPU) invites election organizers from other countries to witness the vote counting in the 2024 elections.

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari explained that this program was carried out to provide an opportunity for various parties to observe every step of the election process in the country, per CNN Indonesia, Tue (13/2).

Hasyim said that many countries have expressed their interest. “The 2024 elections is an opportunity for all of us, the Indonesian people, to show Indonesia’s practices of electoral democracy to the world,” said Hasyim.

He pointed out that Indonesia is the country with the most complicated and shortest elections in the world. It is also one of the third largest general elections in terms of population, after the US and India. The 2024 elections will be participated by 204.8 million voters.

Hasyim said that Indonesia would be one of the nine G20 member countries holding elections in 2024. This means that elections in Indonesia will contribute to global economic growth.

“This complexity occurs as a consequence of the choice of the open-list proportional representation system,” he stressed. There are 2,749 electoral districts (dapil) for presidential and legislative elections. Polls will open from 7am to 1pm local time. (un)
