Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo appointed Amran Sulaiman as the new agriculture minister, replacing Syahrul Yasin Limpo, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (25/10).

Amran is actually not a new face. He served as agriculture minister during Jokowi’s first term (2014-19). The change in the crucial portfolio was prompted by Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) arrest of Syahrul Yasin Limpo as a suspect in alleged gratification case.

Before becoming a minister, Amran Sulaiman had been active in the plantation and trade sector for 15 years. He is known to have received bachelor’s to doctoral degrees in agricultural sciences from Hasanuddin University, Makassar.

He also received the Medal of Honor for the Development Satyalencana in the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Sector from the President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2007.
