Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo appointed deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango as interim chief through Presidential Decree (Keppres) 116 issued on November 24.
Nawawi replaced Firli Bahuri, who was named a suspect in the extortion case against former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), per Katadata (25/11).
In response to the case against Firli, Jokowi asked all parties to respect the due process of law.
According to Jokowi, the government abided by the provision of the Law which stipulates that KPK leaders must be suspended from their positions if they are named as a suspect in an alleged criminal offense.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police Department (Polda Metro Jaya) earlier named Firli as a suspect on Wed (22/11).
The police said they had confiscated key pieces of evidence implicating him in the alleged extortion against SYL related to the handling of a corruption case within the Agriculture Ministry (Kementan) in 2021. (un)
