Indonesia Wins 4 Titles at the International Para Badminton Championships in England

Jakarta, IO – Indonesia won four titles at the 2023 international badminton championship which took place in England. Two of the four championship titles were presented by badminton player Rina Marlina in mixed doubles and women’s singles.

Competing in Sheffield, England, in the final round of the championship 4 Nations Para Badminton International 2023, Monday (7/8), Rina, who paired up with Subhan played beautifully against the British pair, Jack Shephard/Rachel Choong.

They won two straight games over Jack/Rachel with 21-19 21-8. Not only that, Rina also won the same victory when competing in the SH6 women’s singles final, after defeating Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan from India. Again she won in a straight game duel 21-17 and 21-8.

Winning in two events is a proud achievement for Rina because she completed the two events she participated in with championship titles.

The other two titles were presented by mixed doubles SL3-SU5, Hikmat Ramdani/Leani Ratri Oktila who defeated the Indian pair, Pramod Bhagat/Manisha Ramadass 21-17 and 21-17.

Then the Indonesian SL3 women’s singles, Qonitah Ikhtiar Syakuroh managed to become number one after defeating Halime Yildiz from Turkey with a score of 21-8 and 21-8.

“Alhamdulillah, I am very satisfied with this achievement even though there was a slight problem because I had a backache when I competed,” said Rina in the NPC Indonesia release.

 “I am satisfied with this result because I was able to win the title in this championship because this event is the last level one championship in 2023,” said Qonitah who also contributed to the achievement in the SL3 women’s singles category.

In addition to the four gold medals, the Indonesian para-badminton team won three silver and five bronze medals. Silver medals were won by Fredy Setiawan (MS SL4), Leani Ratri/Khalimatus (WD SL3-SL4) and Dheva Anrimusthi (MS SU5). An additional five bronze medals were won by Suryo Nugroho (MS SU5), Hikmat Ramdani (MS SL4), Khalimatus Sadiah (WS SL4), Leani Ratri Oktila (WS SL4) and Fredy S/ Khalimatus (XD SL3-SU5).

Indonesian para-badminton coach, Yunita Ambar Wulandari, said she was proud of the record of achievement achieved by her athletes. This result became the good starting point for the next tournaments.

The plan is that, after playing in England, the badminton athletes will take part in the 2023 Indonesia Para Badminton International Championships which will be held in Solo, Central Java, on September 4-10. (rr)
