Indonesia hosts the 28th CDNLAO conference for sustainable, inclusive and innovative library

Jakarta, IO – The 28th Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) was officially opened in Jakarta today, attended by representatives from more than 30 countries.

The conference was attended virtually by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) president Vicki McDonald from Brisbane, Australia. He conveyed IFLA’s vision and mission regarding the development of libraries and librarians in the future, achieve a strong and unified library sector, and empower a literate, informative, and participatory community. He also emphasized the roles of libraries and librarians in supporting government programs.

“As a librarian and library leader, I believe our challenge is on how we can work together with governments to support their work in addressing and resolving challenges in the community,” said Vicki, Tuesday (25/10).

Vicki said this year IFLA has been 95 years old and is a good momentum to reflect on the achievements by the library sector so far. Thus, he invited the participants to think about the contribution of library to the society.

The National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) is the organizer of the annual activity which aims to exchange information and promote cooperation for library development in Asia and Oceania. The 28th CDNLAO was officially opened by Perpusnas head Muhammad Syarif Bando. This year’s theme is “Library Service Impacts on Community: Sustainability, Inclusion, and Innovation.”
